Vor allem Sänger mit dünner Stimme und Saiteninstrumente profitieren von den Klangeigenschaften des AKG P220 – die Aufnahmen klingen voller und wärmer.Durch die Nieren-Charakteristik eignet sich das P220 besonders zur Aufnahme einzelner Instrumente und Sänger. Es isoliert die Signalquelle und reduziert Hintergrundgeräusche. Aber auch Gitarren-Amps und Schlagzeug lassen sich dank der schaltbaren Vorabschwächung abnehmen.
Das AKG P220 verarbeitet Schalldruckpegel bis 155 dB. Störender Trittschall oder tieffrequente Geräusche können effektiv mit dem schaltbaren Bass-Filter unterdrückt werden. Durch das Ganzmetallgehäuse ist das AKG P220 besonders robust und kann auch als Bühnen-Mikrofon eingesetzt werden.
