For driver reasons, I slowly but surely had to look for a replacement for my Firewire
interface.
Now I've ended up with the SSL12, and I'm very satisfied. The MicPre's have plenty of headroom, are virtually noise-free and the 4K circuitry does what it should.
The headphone output is loud enough with 250ohm headphones, but can be turned up a bit in the software mixer to satisfy everyone.
The feel is great, nothing wobbles or creaks. Only the buttons seem too smooth to me (a matter of taste).
The software is easy to understand, easy to handle. Connection to Cubase was no problem, and the software bundle is very comprehensive.
The few sessions since the changeover have not given me a guilty conscience. I am very satisfied with the interface.

I have been researching for quite a long time and have been wavering between the Focusrite i2i and the ssl2 the whole time. I was looking for an audio interface with two inputs and then decided for the then soch more expensive SSL, because it had less noise in comparison. In addition, I found the Pikmeter to control more practical than an LED. In addition, SSL provides a USB-C cable and I wanted as low latency as possible.
What can I say? The part works great! It's intuitive and installed in no time. The 4K setting actually makes an audible difference and is especially enriching for vocals.
Contrary to some opinions from the internet, you can also work very well with a not so high impedance headphones. Mine has only 50 ohms and I still have enough headroom. All in all a purchase recommendation.
