I bought it for my husband because that's what he wanted. It is actually self-explanatory. Great functions. Ggfs you also need a power supply. This is not included. But to start using beats I can simply recommend it.
Great part - not only for kicks

Besides the main application of the Volca Kick, you can also conjure up excellent drones and "evil" ambient sounds from the black box.
With a little reverb - A feast for the ears :)

Who is looking for small flexible percussion for the small money will not be disappointed. Who wants more must pay easily double. Highly recommended.

I am relatively new to the electronic field. The better I found the description of the Volca Beats. It came 2 days after ordering and was immediately ready for use, thanks to the included batteries. Normal power supplies of floor drivers are alternatively usable. Easy to use, great sound variation possibilities, great combination with the Microbrute.
Highly recommended, great price/performance ratio, built-in speakers for mobility (crappy sound, but still practical), overall very cool. Not only for beginners a great toy.

The kick produces extremely assertive, 909-like bass drums, lots of varaitions and the snaps and zaps that EBM/Nitzer Ebb & Co friends need. 808-like sounds can be created with a little click and a lot of decay, even if not 100%, but you know that beforehand, because the sound generation of the kick consists of an overdriven MS-20 filter. In addition, tonal patterns can be created with the kick, which can also be used as a bassline. The Kick is a good addition to the excellent Beats, although such brutal bass drums are simply not feasible. The operation is easy (especially if you know other Volcas) and mostly self-explanatory, so I forgive the bulky leaflet.
Don't forget that Korg has labeled the patch points on the board of all Volcas. With MIDI-Out-Mod (really only three solder points) you have one of the cheapest step sequencers on the market. It should be clear that the warranty goes down the drain. But from my own experience I know that the Volcas are quite robust. Great part with great sound for a small price. That the power supply is "luxury" with a corresponding price, is a bad habit, which is spreading throughout the industry with the excuse "mobile producing"...
P.S. so far this analog synth, like all my Volcas, has also never crashed/froze on me and batteries actually last over 5 hours, which mind you I'm only referring to power consumption-batteries are basically questionable. (I never found before erwähnensswert, but after my experiences with an Italian mini product...)
With Kirstein everything easy - as it should be. Cash discount for prepayment I find decent, by the way, even if I'm usually too lazy to make use of it ;-)

I ordered the Volca Beats from Korg on recommendation via Kirstein and received it very quickly ! Thanks to
Kirstein for this and also for the advice in advance & the good , safe packaging !
To the Volca Beats , which is very small , but can still be operated well . The enclosed manual is only conditionally useful . Battery operation is cool but a power supply would be safer ! I have syncronized the Volca Beats with the Monoloque from Korg and run together ! ... You have endless possibilities to record gigs ! For me as a "Soundtüfftler" ideal! From my side, so a purchase recommendation!

My first contact with West Coast synthesizers, my fourth Volca. Quality and operation are good, I don't mind the small knobs and I like the membrane keyboard. Amazingly diverse in sound, not only metallic percussive and atonal is possible, but many great sounds. It's just fun to patch and experiment sonically. Ordering and delivery were easy and fast, I am all around impressed and satisfied.

For those a bit caught up in the usual subtractive synthesis, this is a look into other possibilities. Produces nasty and scratchy sounds, but can also sound very mellow with the pure triangle wave. The sound is bigger than the little box suggests. It is more than a toy. Very inspiring the little box. You quickly get exciting results, even if you have rather no idea about modular synthesizers, because the internal signal flow is pre-patched, but can be broken up and changed at any time by the small patch cables. For Volcafans a must anyway.

Like all Volcas, this little box is impressive fun for the money. I've had a DX21 for decades and never really warmed up to FM synthesis itself - at least not with the operating concept of the Yamaha boxes at the time. Soundwise not uninteresting, but the sound tinkering was just too unwieldy.
Korg has managed to create a control concept that invites you to tinker with the sound, despite the very limited number of controls. Switch operators with 2 buttons, turn parameters, set values via slider. You can get to everything immediately, and can, for example, quickly set the same parameter for all 6 operators, which makes perfect sense for FM. Sounds can of course also be saved. For orientation among the abbreviated parameter names or the algorithm configuration, a thick cardboard map is included, all documentation is also available on the net as a PDF.
As always, an easy to use step sequencer is also on board, the sound quality of the output is surprisingly good, even on headphones no significant noise, so the whole thing is great for use on the couch or even in public transport with headphones up to the integration into the (MIDI) studio.
Only the control of the LED display seems a little bit sloppy, depending on the number of lit segments per digit there are different brightnesses. This is not quite clean, but pure cosmetics, which in no way reduces the fun of the device.
