Since I was in the mood for a new stage piano but didn't want to make a trip to Schongau because of the pandemic, I ordered the ES 920 Deluxe Set and had the chance to see how the logistics of such an order work.
Actually, I wouldn't have needed the piano stool, headphones and school at all, I had them from my previous purchase at Kirstein, when I had bought a cheaper stage piano at the beginning of 2019. But since piano and base with pedal unit are ordered individually *expensive* than the complete package I just ordered the complete package
and stool & Co. then sold together with my old piano.
The delivery promise with 2-4 days delivery time was kept without problems, Monday morning ordered and Thursday morning delivered in 4 large boxes.
The substructure was relatively easy to assemble. Only the screws for the pedal unit you have to screw in so to speak in the "blind flight" because you can not see the holes on the opposite side. A little fiddly, but manageable. The bracket for the cables on the cross wall of the piano stand was then also attached to the wrong side, which had to be moved, but all no problem.
The piano itself is very well packaged. The plastic surfaces of the music stand and the display on the piano are provided with a protective film that must of course be removed before use.
In the piano box you will also find the manual with over 140 pages, and the whole 5x for German, English, French, Italian and Spanish. Here my green heart bleeds in view of the fact that I probably do not need 80% of these manuals and will dispose of in the paper bin.
If you hold down the keys "Piano2", "Organ" and "Strings/Choir" while switching on, the piano also tells you the current firmware version. This was with my device V1.01, but in the meantime firmware V1.11 is already released, so first make a firmware update via a USB stick.
Then the first play. Wow, what a difference to my previous stage piano, which also only cost a third of the price of the ES 920. The sound is absolutely fantastic and clear. The ES 920 has "only" 38 sounds, but in combination with the effects, the amp simulation and the fact that you can adjust all parameters of the piano with the "Virtual Technican" multiplies the sound possibilities enormously. So with the grand pianos you can
how far the "lid" is open or closed. And a jazz piano with a "chorus" effect sounds exactly like the "honky-tonk piano" on my previous stage piano. Layering" sounds, i.e. playing 2 different voices at the same time, also works very easily. The
volume balance can be changed in 10 steps. And also the 4 sliders for the equalizer next to the display make the quick sound adjustment very easy.
The rhythm section is also very impressive. Rich bass runs and always nicely played fill-ins make playing with the auto accompaniment a pleasure. Sure, I want to play more piano, but the existence of an auto accompaniment was for me, I come from the keyboard / organ corner but decisive for the purchase decision.
The recording function is also very clear and easy to use and also the conversion of MIDI recordings into audio files for the USB stick was easy to manage.
A particular highlight for me is the keyboard. Sure, it's plastic, but unlike the previous piano (which also had plastic keys), the keyboard actually doesn't feel like plastic at all. The surface feels better somehow and the touch response is really high quality, as if you were playing on a solid wooden keyboard.
The menu navigation of the piano is also very clear and very well described in the manual. If the display is too small for you, you can install the Piano Remote app on your tablet and use it to set all the functions of the piano from the tablet, provided you have the latest firmware on the piano (see above). The app is much clearer in the settings of the Virtual Technican than the small OLED display on the piano could ever be. Clear recommendation for anyone who wants to experiment with the settings.
After a week with the ES 920 I am still thrilled. The very good keyboard really motivates to play and the tonal possibilities are huge. Fortunately, the thing also offers the possibility to save up to 28 settings to have so good sounds quickly available. And of course you can copy all settings to a USB stick and read them again.
For the price of just under 1800 € a very nice and recommendable instrument. By the way, in my purchase decision it prevailed against the competitors "Yamaha P515", "Roland RD88" and "Roland FP-90X", especially because of the automatic accompaniment.

With the stage piano, I underestimated the volume of the keyboard due to the 'hammer technique'. A telephone conversation with a very friendly employee helped me to assess the situation. In the meantime, I have become well accustomed to it and am very satisfied with the appearance, the acoustics and the ease of use of the device.
Good overall package!

The set came quickly and in several large packages. The assembly was easy to manage, there was even a screwdriver included for the stool. At first I was disappointed by the sound of the electric piano, which I had imagined "just like a real piano". In fact, however, the sound clearly comes from the speakers and it is recommended to get help from professionals for the optimal setting. The Musikhaus Kirstein (highly recommended!) offers the service of "remote maintenance" on the phone. But that was not necessary because my piano teacher was there. According to her assessment, the dynamics are very good and she gave me tips for an optimal setting, which is clearly different from the basic setting (warm grande!). My family is very excited about the electric piano and now enjoys playing using an app (Simply Piano). The incentive to make an effort is much higher for them than when there was only my (beloved) Yamaha keyboard in the same place....
The headphones are great and it's really fun to practice without disturbing the others. So overall a good investment for the whole family and if I could I would give 4.5 stars.

Since I didn't want to disturb my neighbor working in the 'home office' too much, I was looking for an alternative to my small Steinway grand piano. I found this with the Kawai ES-920, which gives me a lot of pleasure both visually and acoustically. Classical and romantic pieces also sound very good on it!
