Die lange Freundschaft von Epiphone mit Mr. Les Paul begann 1940, als Les während seiner Arbeit in der ursprünglichen Epiphone-Fabrik in Manhattan eine der ersten Solid-Body-E-Gitarren der Welt baute. Les' erste Solidbody-Gitarre mit dem Spitznamen "The Log" inspirierte später die Les Paul Standard, die viele als die beste E-Gitarre betrachten, die jemals hergestellt wurde.
