Mit dem EB-3 stellte Gibson dem beliebten EB-0 Bass im Jahr 1961 eine longscale Modell-Variante zur Seite, die neben dem beliebten Design des kleinen Bruders noch mit einen zusätzlichen Bridgepickup punkten kann. Genau wie die SG fand auch der coole Tieftöner schnell prominente Liebhaber und so sah man schon kurze Zeit nach dem Release der Longscalevariante Bassisten wie Jack Bruce (Cream), Bill Wyman (Rolling Stones) oder Glenn Cornick (Jethro Tull) mit dem EB-3 um den Hals rocken.
Mit dem offiziellen Segen des Mutterkonzerns Gibson präsentiert Epiphone jetzt eine wunderschöne Replik des legendären Basses. Und genau wie sein Vorbild, kommt auch die Epiphone-Version des EB-3 mit einem massiven Mahagonikorpus im genialen SG-Shaping.

The factory string action was too high for me, but it was easy to correct.
You can't complain about the workmanship either: it's excellent, very high quality. But I'm not one of those people who immediately put on the "everything is scrap" glasses when I hear "made in China" anyway, everything is impeccably finished.
One point should not be concealed: the top-heaviness! I usually play a Fender bass and was surprised at how quickly the Epi tipped downwards. This can be easily corrected with a wide, roughened strap, but it does take some getting used to.
All in all: a beautiful, well-sounding and well-made bass that takes some getting used to.
