Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb Combo!
Die '68 Customs sind eine äußerst populäre Amp-Serie. Begehrt bei Gitarristen, die klassischen Fender Sound ebenso lieben wie moderne Tone-Modifikationen für Spieler von heute.
Mit nur 5 Watt Leistung wurde der original Vibro Champ berühmt für sein Fender Tremolo, den herrlichen Röhrenglitzer und das biestige Knirschen ab einem gewissen Level. Der '68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb setzt im Vergleich zum Klassiker noch einen drauf: Er hat zusätzlich ein Hall Reverb und einen größeren 10" Speaker für stärkere Bässe. Mit diesen Ergänzungen ist er ein kompaktes Klangwunder und perfekt für Proben, Homerecording und kleine Gigs. Zum Verstärker gehört eine passende Abdeckung. Optional erhältlich: 2-Knopf-Fußschalter im Vintage-Stil.

I was looking for:
- Tube
- Clean amp

Advantages:
- First of all: I'm sure the first people will come along and claim that the Princeton is the better choice in terms of sound. Maybe it is, but it has 12 watts and is therefore not even remotely comparable if we are talking about home use. 5 watts with the amp on volume 4-5 is already the upper limit for condominiums. That's why the 12 watt comparison with the Princeton, which you often hear on forums/YouTube, is not accurate. -> If you are looking for a tube at home without an attenuator -> 5 watts !!!
- Compared to the Fender 57 Champ (same 5 watt league), this one has more setting options and sounds clearer/less musty/low and more pleasant in the power amp (57 Champ costs significantly more and sounds like this amp to me, but with the tone pot on the guitar turned up).
- In terms of sound, this amp is terrific and sounds crystal clear/bell-like typical for Fender
- It takes pedals well, but I love playing it without pedals
- I think the power plug for removing during transport is great (it's even 3 meters)
- Cover is included (50€ extra with other manufacturers...)
Neutral:
- Foot pedal for reverb/vibrato is not included and nobody needs it (supposedly the no-name switches also work)
- With low basses, the built-in speaker vibrates a little (I have already played several of these amps live and all of them have this!) No problem for me, it's just a small combo and sometimes it rattles. Just for information: the Fender 57 Champ for over 1400€ has this too
Disadvantages/improvement:
- Tubes... Fender, Fender... the 6V6 power amp from JJ/GrooveTubes is dirty, sorry. It has a resonance on certain notes (e.g. E on the G-string 9th fret) which sounds microphonic, but is actually just the tube resonating like glass. 6V6GT-STR from TAD installed for 30€, problem solved. But I'll leave the tube in until it gives up the ghost. Incidentally, all of the 68 Vibro Champs I tested have this -> It is the tube/batch that was installed during this period.
If you are looking for a clean amp in the 5 watt tube world, I recommend the Vibro Champ 68 over the Champ57 for almost double the price. This one can do more and sounds to me like a Fender amp should sound! And that's what matters.
Oh yes... in the rehearsal room with pillow-stuffed drums, bass, keys and 2nd guitar, it easily holds its own. I don't know how loud some people practice in the rehearsal room, but our band had no problems. It also cuts well through the mix and is easy to hear in the band structure!
